In 2012 Dyan and his family had fled their home country of Sudan. They had to go to refugee camps as their only resort, as they did not have much money and was the only neighboring country taking on refugees. During fleeing Sudan, Dyan got separated from his family and had no way of contacting them. He was treated as a single male refugee which put him on the lowest priority, while his family got admitted to the refugee camp straight away.
